Globalisation has been credited with many economic achievements and blamed for many ills around the world over the past decades. It has been perceived as a promoter of growth and prosperity, lifting hundreds of millions in the developing world out of poverty, as well as a force causing inequality and economic and political polarisation. The International Trade and Regional Economics programme is a platform for leading economists engaged in cutting-edge theoretical and empirical research to share their findings and exchange views on topics related to cross-border trade, investment and migration as well as economic geography. In addition to pushing the frontiers of knowledge, the programme aims to generate research findings that can lead to useful and actionable policy advice.

Symposia

The ITRE programme has two highly successful annual Symposia. The first is the European Workshop in International Trade (ERWIT), held annually since 1988. It has become the leading research forum in international trade and has played a significant role in raising the profile and quality of research in international economics in Europe and beyond.

The programme also organizes the annual Conference on Urban and Regional Economics (CURE). CURE brings together circa 30 urban and regional economists from across the world.

The European Workshop in International Trade

ERWIT, held annually since 1988, has become the leading research forum in international trade and has played a significant role in raising the profile and quality of research in international economics in Europe and beyond.

Participants are selected to include a mix of established European researchers with international reputations, young academics at the outset of their careers, and prominent authors from North America.

The annual Conference on Urban and Regional Economics (CURE)

CURE brings together circa 30 urban and regional economists from across the world. Alternating across the Atlantic, CURE is held in the USA on even years and hosted by the Wharton School (formerly Princeton University) and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. The European editions take place on odd years and is organised through the ITRE programme in different locations such as Madrid, Basel, Paris and Milan.
